The Best Satellite TV Providers

When choosing a satellite TV provider in the US there are two main options to pick from. The top satellite TV providers are currently Dish Network and DirecTV. Each of them is available throughout most of America and has a great selection of channel packages to choose from. The main competition to satellite television service comes from Cable services such as Comcast. These two major companies are constantly offering different promotions to attempt to gain additional customers so it’s important to get the latest information about what pricing and promotional offers are available from each company in your area.

In addition to offering national deals at different times, these satellite TV providers will also offer a local deal specific to a smaller geographic area. This is often done based on market research showing that there are many customers who are interested in changing or upgrading to satellite. It could also occur when one of the satellite companies is just attempting to enter a market so they want to build up their customer base quickly.

Dish Network is the second largest pay TV company in the US with approximately 14.3 million customers. As the second largest of the satellite TV providers in the US, Dish Network owns or leases 14 satellites at this time.

DirecTV comes in as the largest of the satellite providers in America with about 19.2 million subscribers. DirecTV has been growing rapidly throughout its foot print and recently moved into Latin America with their satellite TV services. With 12 satellites currently in operations and a 13th being built they have the capacity to continue to grow for years to come.

What is satellite TV?

Satellite TV can be defined as any television programming which is delivered through a communications satellite and received by an outdoor antenna, often called a satellite dish. Satellite television began in 1962 when a signal was relayed from Europe to a satellite called ‘Telstar’ over North America. It took only about five years from that point until the first national network of satellite television began. The first satellite TV network was called ‘Orbita’ and was created in the Soviet Union but this was not used for public television as we think of it today. The first “Direct-to-Home’ service was launched in 1976 under the name “Ekran” and served the Soviet Union.

Satellite TV has grown and advanced with technology throughout the years. The constant upgrades are a key feature of the major satellite TV providers today. All satellite TV signals start at a transmitting antenna or dish. These ‘uplink dishes’ are much larger than the receiving dishes located at someone’s home. At around 30 to 40 feet in diameter an uplink dish would be quite intrusive at a residential home. Uplink dishes have to be able to transmit large amounts of data (video, audio, digital information) quickly to the satellites which then transmit the signal down to the subscribers. This larger size also allows for a more accurate aiming at the satellite and also a more powerful signal.

Satellite TV today offers its customers dozens of HD channels with crystal clear pictures and very high quality audio. This is in addition to hundreds of standard definition channels, many of which will be converting to HD over the course of the next several years. The higher definition video requires a significant increase in the amount of data transmitted and often requires an upgraded satellite dish or converter.

Satellite TV also offers its customers a wide range of ‘on demand’ options. On demand simply means the program is available for a customer to start and watch at any time they choose rather than being tied down to the time it airs live. In most areas customers can also get a “DVR” (digital video recorder) box to record TV when they are away so they can view it at their leisure.

How to install a satellite TV?

Most satellite dishes are installed by the satellite TV Providers or an authorized third party installer. This is because the dish must be installed at the correct level, pointing to the correct spot to receive an optimum signal. If someone wants to install their own dish there are several things to keep in mind. First, the dish must be pointed in the direction of the satellite. This location can often be located through the satellite TV providers’ web site. Once the dish is installed and pointing in the general vicinity of the satellite the installer can view the signal strength on the receiver and make minor adjustments to the direction the dish is pointed to improve the strength.

To install a dish there are several things needed including the proper bolts depending on where the dish will be. Dishes are typically installed either on the roof or side of a house or on a small wooden poll. If installing on the side of a house that is made of brick there are special ‘brick bolts’ which will be required, otherwise any bolts of the specified size should work. When installing it is the key to ensure there is a clear line of sight from the dish to the satellite. This could require trimming back some tree branches to ensure they are not in the way. If you live in the city it is also important to make sure there are no other houses or buildings in the way so the dish may need to be installed at the highest point of your house.

How to watch satellite TV on computer?

Once the satellite dish is installed and your service is active it is time to enjoy your satellite television service! Most people watch on their actual TV but it is becoming more and more popular to watch television programming from the satellite on your computer. Watching satellite TV on your computer has become very easy in recent years. With just a simple cord running from your satellite receiver to your computer’s TV tuner card, you can be watching TV in no time.

Satellite Providers also have software available to make changing the channel and even watching programs on demand quick and easy on your computer. As more and more people want to watch TV on computer, it can be counted on that more and more features will be added!

To be surprised, the Sony internet TV price is quite cheap. And Different from HX929 Series and EX720 Series. Sony Internet TV is like a laptop. It has the Android Market where you can download internet applications. It has a huge potential in internet usage.

From the above review, you can find out there is a strange thing. HX929 Series and EX720 Series is just ready for Wireless Lan.
Right after the success of iPads, netbooks, and netphones, a new breed of home entertainment has been launch through the internet ready TV. In contrast to common expectations, it’s not Microsoft, Apple, or Google who pioneered in this technological advancement but the television makers themselves; Sony, LG, Panasonic, Sharp, Philips, Toshiba, Samsung, etc.

The above mentioned television brands have specifically partnered to certain websites to make such innovation possible. For example, Sony is offering Youtube and Amazon video or video contents, LG partnered with Netflix, and Panasonic offers Bloomberg and Picassa media contents. With this knowledge in mind, it is ideal that you must check first what media and internet channel options a particular television brand offers prior to your purchase.

Television makers have certainly tapped the opportunity on people’s fondness with social media and such effort has been seen to be successful. Today, a lot of consumers have accorded a warm welcome or acceptance with this new technology. On the United States alone, it is expected that consumer sales is expected to rise by 14 percent come the year 2012. This new kind of TV works both with wired or wireless internet connection. The usual functionality of the conventional TVs were also preserved. Of course, picture and sound quality including all other specifications will be dependent on a particular brand.

Some of the internet ready TV providers are now also providing high-definition units and that the latest models of Sony are now 3D capable. HDTV and 3D viewing is considered the best viewing and entertainment feature that anyone can experience. This new breed of televisions offer a wider screen to accommodate more audience, some are equipped with SD and micro SD card slots for specific and personalized media viewing, and the irritation buffer and download problems common with internet media streams are minimized.

And probably the best benefit that the new internet ready TV can provide is much lesser utility cost, wherein, cable TV subscriptions is no longer required, because some websites supported include streaming cable TV programs and channels.

A lot of telecommunications companies have embarked on offering both TV and internet packages. Most of the time, packages are also coupled with free telephone service. This could be a great opportunity for households to cut down their monthly utility bills and still enjoy the services and utilities they require. There are a number of reasons why telecom companies are able to provide such a budget-friendly package.

The technology that delivers telephone and internet to households (fiber optics) has improved that now, it can simultaneously deliver digital television or cable TV signal.

Computer, internet, WiFi, and iPad technologies have been introduced that they are slowly taking over the basic functions which a separate television can give. It is not a new knowledge that our favorite TV programs can already be watched and downloaded online.

Offering TV and internet packages have also been a result of the stiffer competition between telecommunication companies. It is a way for a company to acquire more subscribers or at least retain their current client list. You can also observe that when a company offers a new type of service or products, a close competitor will follow to offer the same or similar product/service in no time.

Going For the Best TV and Internet Packages

You might eventually ask, why are these great packages offered only now? It’s because, the height of technological and business advancement is only happening now, hence, one or two innovations are made available almost every week or day.
But there’s a catch, telecom companies offering bundled TV and internet packages doesn’t necessarily mean that the quality of service that they provide have also improved, whether on the technical or more importantly on the customer service aspect. Of course, you would want to go for the more affordable plans and packages, but price isn’t only the sole factor. Here are some short points in determining the best and most suitable package for you and your family.

You might want to initially check for new bundles and promos from your most trusted and tested telecom companies. At least you are assured with top-notch service. When that company is part of the top service providers in your locality or area, they would surely have bundled TV and internet packages as well. As a long-term client, you might even be lucky to be accorded with several perks, plan discounts, and all other benefits.

When deciding for a particular plan or package, focus more on the internet benefits than on cable TV. Why is it so? Remember, there are now numerous websites offering live streaming for most of the popular TV channels and programs, hence, going for faster internet speeds is ideal. Of course it will still be dependent on your preference, in case you or your family is much more inclined to television viewing, then, ensure that all your favorite cable TV channels are included in the package.

Finally you have the option to go for TV and internet packages either of the cable or the wireless/broadband type. When you’re living in the metro, it is ideal to go for the cabled type of service since service interruption will be rare and minimal. The wireless or broadband type is ideal for those living in the rural areas beyond the reach of cabled telecom companies. Digital service for the wireless is better but interruptions might be dependent on weather conditions. The broadband/digital type would also cost more.

We spend more and more time on Internet entertainment. And all these Internet content can be watched on our HDTV now. What we need to do is just to connect TV to Internet.

Several years ago, connect tv to Internet is just an impossible work. Every time when we want to watch the movie from Internet, we need to download them to our computers, then use the HDMI cable to connect TV to computer. But it is quite time consuming and complicated because you need to wait till you download the whole movie to you computer. If you subscribe the DVR service, it will be better. You can watch the paid Internet connect from your HDTV through your DVR. The only problem is that you need to pay for the subscription fee monthly.

But now, it is not a dream because most HDTVs in the market can be connected to the Internet directly, and some of them have built-WiFi which you can connect TV to wireless Internet.

Sony NSX-40GT1 40-Inch 1080p 60 Hz LED HDTV Featuring Google TV
